What you actually get for €650
The package is the backbone of a complete foil: your choice of Sonar AF72 or AF85 aluminium mast, the AF board adaptor, the new A700 fuselage for added stability, the new S270 carbon stabilizer, tool kit, all screw packs, and a Sonar travel bag to keep the lot organised. The refined aluminium mast profile balances light weight with exceptional strength, and North's GeoLock load-bearing connection gives a clean, direct feel with minimum resistance on the water — no aluminium-foil wobble.
Which mast — AF72 or AF85?
Straight from how North designed them: the AF72 is ideal for shallower waters and prone surf foiling — a good shout for learning at Irish low-tide spots. The AF85 increases overall ride performance in choppier conditions — the better all-rounder once you're up and riding Galway Bay chop. Tell us where you'll foil and we'll tell you which.
The clever bit: it grows with you
This is the real reason we rate the Sonar system for beginners. It's fully interchangeable and uses the industry-standard 165x90mm bolt pattern, so the same mast and fuselage carry you from your first wing foil sessions into kite foiling, surf foiling, even tow foiling — you just change front wings as you progress. You're not buying a beginner foil; you're buying the first half of every foil you'll ever need.
The honest bit: add a front wing
Front wings are sold separately, so the €650 isn't quite the whole story. If you'd rather have everything in one box, the Sonar Prime Foil Edition at €1,299 includes a MAv2 Prime front wing (1200–2400 sizes) — same moulds as North's carbon wings, at a more accessible price — plus everything above. That's the "just make it work" option, and we have all sizes in stock.
