Kitesurfing in Ireland

Silverstrand Beach, Barna, Galway, looking across Galway Bay to the Burren

The West Coast of Ireland is world-class for kitesurfing and wingfoiling — consistent Atlantic wind, flat-water lagoons and proper swell, all within a short drive of Galway. Here are the spots we ride and teach at, with the conditions that make each one work.

Live west-coast wind forecast

Check it before you travel — live wind for Galway Bay and the west coast:

Silverstrand, Barna (Galway)

Our home spot, and where you’ll often find our mobile trailer set up. At low tide a shallow, flat lagoon forms to the left of the main beach — ideal, safe water for learning to kitesurf. Best in south-westerly to westerly winds. This is where most of our kitesurf lessons happen.

Rusheen Bay (Galway)

Sheltered, shallow and flat — one of the best wingfoiling and beginner spots in Ireland, just behind Silverstrand. Works on south-west through west, and the shallow water makes it a confidence-builder for foiling.

Lahinch, Co. Clare

A proper Atlantic beach break about an hour south — great for wave riding and strapless when there’s swell and a cross-shore wind. For experienced riders.

Conditions & safety

Always check the wind before you travel — see the live forecast at the top of this page. New to a spot? Message us for local advice on tides, hazards and the right kite size for the day, or read our full guide to kitesurfing in Ireland.
