Quick answer: 3mm split-toe boots are the single most underrated bit of kit for Irish riders. Warm feet from March to November, grip on slippery slipways and launches, and a layer between your soles and whatever the low tide is hiding — weever fish, shells, sharp rocks. The Mystic Majestic 3mm Split Toe is the pair we fit most, and at €60 it's the cheapest upgrade you'll make to your sessions this year.
What they are
A proper cold-water boot that doesn't feel like one. Knitflex across the top, Flaremesh lining inside, and double pull loops so they go on without a car-park wrestling match. The reinforced heel keeps your foot planted inside the boot instead of sloshing about, and Hex-grip lite soles sort the walk across the rocks. The split toe is the bit that matters most: your big toe sits in its own pocket, so you keep board feel close to barefoot. That's the difference between these and the clumpy round-toe boots that make every session feel like riding in wellies.
Why 3mm
Because 3mm is the year-round Irish compromise. It's warm enough for everything except deep winter — if you're on the water December to February, go 5mm — but thin enough that you don't lose rail feel. We wear ours from the first March sessions right through to November, and that's nine months of not thinking about your feet once.
Who they're for
Everyone, in our experience. Kiters launching off stony beaches, wingers standing around in the shallows waiting for a gust, foilers who'd rather not find a weever the hard way. Every lesson student here goes out in a pair too — boots are part of the free safety-gear bundle worth €400 that comes with every full-price new kite package. If we insist our students wear them, that should tell you what we think of Irish water barefoot. More on why in our safety gear rundown.
Price, and how to pay less
They're €60 on their own. If you're stocking up, they count towards the Gear Up & Save collection codes: SAVE10 gets you 10% off orders over €200, stacking up to SAVE25 for 25% off over €800. Boots, a vest and a lid together, and the boots are close to free.
Sizing
Wetsuit boots should be snug — too big and they fill with water, too small and your toes go numb faster than barefoot. If you're between sizes or unsure, message us on WhatsApp with your shoe size and we'll sort you out. We've plenty of pairs on the shelf right now, but sizes go unevenly, so don't sit on it.
