F-One Swing V5 review — the wave and freefly wing

Posted by Paddy on

If waves or freefly are what draw you to wing foiling rather than flat-water cruising, the F-One Swing V5 is worth a look. It's F-One's dedicated wave and freefly wing, and this fifth generation has been reworked with a smaller wingspan specifically to make it lighter and easier to throw around mid-manoeuvre — which is exactly what you want when you're trying to keep a wing out of the way while you turn.

The reduced wingspan doesn't come at the cost of stability — F-One have balanced it with the Sweep Control Panel, which lets you dial in trailing edge tension so the power delivery stays smooth rather than snatchy. That matters more on a wave or freefly wing than a flat-water one, because you're constantly changing your grip and angle, and a wing that surges unpredictably makes that much harder to do cleanly.

We stock it from 2.0m² right up to 5.5m² across two colourways, so there's a size for most wind ranges and rider weights — the smaller sizes for stronger wind and more aggressive freefly sessions, the bigger ones for lighter days when you still want to get planing. Prices start at €999 for the smallest size and go up to €1,339 for the 5.5m². One useful detail: the strap position is optimised so a single Boom works across multiple sizes and models in F-One's wing range, so if you're building out a quiver over time you're not necessarily buying new hardware every time.

This isn't the wing we'd put a complete beginner on — it rewards a bit of time already spent on the foil — but if you've got the basics down and you're chasing waves or want a wing that disappears from your hands the second you don't need it, this is the one.

Around here, that's Silverstrand on the right swell or further out toward the Aran side when it's working — conditions where a lighter, more manoeuvrable wing genuinely changes what you can do on the water rather than just being a nice-to-have.

Not sure which size to start with for your weight and the wind you're usually out in? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you get it right first time. And if you're around Barna, drop into the shop — happy to talk wings over a coffee, no obligation.
