Kitesurf kit and lessons for Donegal: we're your shop in the west

Posted by Paddy on

Donegal has some of the best kitesurfing wind in Ireland — so let's be straight with you: we're not going to pretend Galway is around the corner. What we will say is that for buying your kit and for learning the right way, Paddy in the Elements is well worth knowing, whether you make the trip or we put gear on a courier to your door.

Here's how we'd be useful to a Donegal rider.

You've got the riding — we've got the shop

Rossnowlagh, Tullan Strand in Bundoran, the beaches up around the north — you're spoiled for places to ride once you know how. What the northwest is shorter on is a full bricks-and-mortar kitesurf shop with the brands and the know-how under one roof. That's us. We carry North, Core, Ozone, F-One and more, and we'll match a kite to your weight and your local wind instead of shifting whatever's on the shelf. Browse the kites and the packages and deals, and if you can't get down to Barna, ring us — we post gear all over Ireland and you'll have it in days.

Not sure what to buy first?

If you're newer to it, the trap is buying the wrong kite size or a board that fights you the whole way. Tell us your weight, your usual wind and the beaches you ride, and we'll point you at the right setup — a forgiving all-rounder kite, a board that helps rather than hinders, and the safety bits that actually matter. That advice is free whether you're buying a full setup or just upgrading a bar, and it's the part a website can't give you.

Everything in one order

Cold-water riding needs proper warm kit, and we'd rather you sorted it in one go than chased five different websites. Our Gear Up & Save range gives you more off the more you buy — wetsuits, helmets, impact vests, boots, gloves, hoods — plus harnesses and all the wetsuits and waterwear you need for the Atlantic. One call, one delivery, head to toe.

Learning? Make a trip of it

If you're starting from scratch, here's the honest advice: learning on a cold beach break in deep water is slow and disheartening. The fast track is a focused block of lessons on our safe, sandy lagoon at Silverstrand — standing-depth, flat water where you stand up, reset and go again. Plenty of people drive down, do a couple of intensive days, stay over, and head home actually able to ride rather than half-able after a summer of solo frustration. Have a look at our kitesurfing school page and our guide to kitesurfing in Ireland, then message us and we'll build a session around the forecast.

Why have a shop two counties away?

Because gear bought from a real shop comes with real aftercare. Snap a line, need a spare part, not sure whether a kite suits your conditions? You've got people who ride these same Atlantic waters on the end of the phone for the life of the kit — not a faceless checkout. For a lot of Donegal riders, that's reason enough to make us their shop. Whether it's a delivery, a kit consultation or a learning trip, give us a shout — call into Barna village or get in touch and we'll sort you out.
