If you're buying for a kitesurfer or wing foiler this Christmas and you have no idea what half the gear does, this is the list. Everything below is in stock in Galway right now, priced from €17 up, and chosen because it's the stuff we actually use through an Irish winter. Collect from the trailer at Silverstrand or Barna, or we post it anywhere in Ireland (free over €200, €13 under). If you're stuck on size, WhatsApp us and we'll sort it in two minutes.
Under €30: the stocking fillers that get used every session
Nobody buys these for themselves and everybody is glad when they turn up. Mystic helmet earpads (€17) fit the MK8 and MK8X helmets and make a cold January session a lot less miserable. A Mystic wetsuit dry bag (€19) stops a soaking suit ruining the car boot, and the Star 2mm hood (€29) is the one piece of neoprene that turns a December session from "once" into "regularly". A Mystic H2O cap (€19) or the Norris 175L gear bag (€29) round it out. If you want to spend about €30 and be certain it's right, this is the shelf.
Under €60: gloves, boots and a helmet
This is the sweet spot for a present that genuinely changes how often someone gets on the water. Cold hands and feet end more winter sessions in Galway than wind does. The Mystic Majestic 3mm split-toe boots (€49) are the boots we wear ourselves and the ones we put on every student; we have a full run of sizes in stock. For hands, the Star 3mm five-finger gloves (€39) keep the feel on the bar, and the Supreme 5mm lobster gloves (€59) are for people who ride through February. The Mystic MK8 helmet (from €49) is a proper watersports helmet, not a bike lid, and comes in mustard, rusty red and night blue. You'll find the full range under boots, gloves and hoods.
Under €150: the things they'd never buy themselves
A changing poncho sounds like a luxury until you've stood in a Silverstrand car park in a north-westerly trying to get out of a 5/4 with one hand. The Mystic Poncho Deluxe (€109) and the Explore 2.0 changing robe (€149) are the two we get asked about most, and the towel poncho (€49) is the lighter option for summer. On the safety side, an impact vest is the present a parent or partner buys: the Peacock front-zip vest (€109) or the The Dom (€129) both go under a harness. The Vandal Pro helmet (€119) is the step up from the MK8 if they ride big air. For off the water, the Gust windbreaker (€69) and the Mystic hoodie (€59) are the pieces that get worn to the beach every weekend. Everything in this bracket is on the Mystic clothing and helmets and impact vests pages.
The big one: a wetsuit, a harness or a lesson
If you're buying a wetsuit as a gift, buy it with the rider in the room or buy a voucher; fit matters more than brand. That said, the Mystic Marshall 5/3mm (€149) is the honest Irish winter suit at a fair price, and the Marshall Junior 5/3 (€169) is the one for a teenager who has just finished lessons. Harnesses are the same story: the Majestic (€319) and the women's Gem (€319) are brilliant, but they need to be tried on, so come into the trailer or send us their waist size on WhatsApp.
For someone who hasn't started yet, the best present is time on the water. A lesson gift voucher covers anything from a single session to the full three-lesson beginner course, and it's one-to-one with Paddy at Silverstrand or Rusheen Bay whenever the wind and their diary line up. We wrote more about how the vouchers work here.
When you really don't know
A shop gift card (€10 to €300) is never the wrong answer with kite gear, because the rider will spend it on the exact size they need rather than the thing you guessed. It arrives by email, so it works for the 23rd of December too.
Delivery and collection before Christmas
Everything on this page is physically in Galway, so there's no waiting on a distributor. Collect from us at Silverstrand or Barna, or we post it: free Irish delivery over €200, €13 under, usually with you in one to two working days. Closer to Christmas we'll put the last safe posting date on the website and on WhatsApp so nothing gets caught in the rush. If you'd rather see things before you buy, call in or come to a demo day.
Still not sure? Send us a WhatsApp with who it's for and what they ride, and we'll suggest something in your budget. No rush, and no hard sell.
